Grants and Funding

Grants and Funding

The Australian Government funds and delivers a range of programs specifically for First Nations peoples. Funding is allocated through the Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS), National Partnership Agreements, Special Accounts and Special Appropriations.

The NIAA administers the IAS and works to improve the way the Australian Government does business with First Nations peoples to ensure funding outcomes improve the lives of First Nations peoples.

Grant funding is also available through Indigenous-specific and mainstream programs delivered by other agencies. Information about all government funding opportunities is available at GrantConnect.

Support for Community Sector Organisations

The Support for Community Sector Organisations measure was announced in the 2022-2023 October Budget to support organisations in need of funding supplementation to address staff wage pressures and high inflation rates. The supplementation is provided through additional payments to eligible organisations over four years.

The NIAA has determined which funded organisations and activities are eligible for supplementation in line with the published Grant Opportunity Guidelines available on GrantConnect.  As circumstances affecting CSOs and activities change, this list may also change, and so the NIAA will periodically update this list when appropriate.

A list of organisations and associated grant activities eligible to receive 2022-2023 Support for Community Sector Organisations payments from NIAA is also available.
