Consultation to strengthen the Indigenous Procurement Policy

Public consultations on how to strengthen the Commonwealth Indigenous Procurement Policy (IPP) have opened.

The Australian Government is seeking the public’s views on IPP reform options, such as changing the definition of a First Nations business, to increase opportunities for First Nations Businesses and ensure benefits provided through the IPP are genuinely flowing to First Nations businesses as intended.

Since it started in 2015, the Indigenous Procurement Policy has helped to grow Commonwealth contracts for First Nations businesses to more than $9 billion in contracts for more than 3,600 Indigenous businesses.

This is a big impact, but it’s time to find out if the policy can be even more effective in increasing opportunities for First Nations business through procurement. Consultation is open now until 1 March 2024.
