Grants supporting women to lead and succeed
Eligible organisations are invited to apply for grant funding under the Women’s Leadership and Development Program’s (WLDP) Lead and Succeed grant opportunity, delivered by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Office for Women.
The WLDP aims to advance gender equality, extend leadership and economic participation opportunities for women, and build a safer more respectful culture in workplaces. Through previous grant rounds, the WLDP funds organisations that work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve outcomes for women.
To target the diverse needs of women in Australia, priority will be given to projects with strong connections to their community and partnerships with specialist organisations.
Lead and Succeed grants seek to support projects that deliver diverse and culturally appropriate responses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, women living in regional, rural and remote areas, older women, women with disability, LGBTQI+ women, and women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The First Nations Foundation is one organisation currently receiving funding under the WLDP and will receive $797,988 over 2020-21 to 2022-2 to deliver the Indigenous Women’s Financial Wellness strategy.
Before starting the My Money Dream Training through the First Nations Foundation, Justine* and her partner had no real financial goals, support or security. They were living in a small room in the back of her grandparent’s home and were relying on family to support them financially by doing odd jobs. The lack of security and the long terms impacts of their financial situation impacted on their relationship.
Justine was introduced to the Money Masterclass by a friend and completed the modules that provided solid understanding of what financial wellness meant for her and helped her to establish financial goals.
As a result of the My Money Dream Training and being a part of the Indigenous Women’s Financial Wellness Network, Justine was able to create a growing savings account, land a secure full-time job and her and her partner are now living in their own apartment in the city.
Justine says, ‘This wouldn’t have been made possible without the Money Masterclasses, which had helped me to set out a solid foundation for my financial wellness and my overall wellbeing.’ *Note the participant’s real name
