Closing the Gap report released

The Commonwealth’s Closing the Gap 2024 Annual Report and 2025 Implementation Plan has been released.

2024 Annual Report

The report outlines the many actions the Commonwealth has taken over the past year to deliver on the outcomes of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. It demonstrates progress made to implement more than 100 actions and commits the Commonwealth to more practical action for positive change. 

The report shows a significant shift in the way Government is working, consistent with the four Priority Reforms. This means the Commonwealth, with the Coalition of Peaks and communities, are working in greater partnership and First Nations people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them.

2025 Implementation Plan

The 2025 Implementation Plan is supported by investments to accelerate progress towards Closing the Gap outcomes that make a real impact for First Nations people. The focus for 2025 is on continuing to improve health outcomes, reduce overcrowding, improve food security, keeping First Nations families safe and increase economic empowerment. 

There is a clear forward agenda focussed on implementation and delivery of critical services with more than 190 commitments across all socio-economic targets and Priority Reforms.  The Implementation Plan demonstrates the continued commitment to strengthening efforts to work in partnership with First Nations people to ensure policies and programs which impact their lives are community-led to provide the best opportunity for success.
