The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) publishes documents released under the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) in our disclosure logs.

 

Information published in disclosure logs

We are not required to publish information if:

  • it would involve the unreasonable publication of:
  • it is not reasonably practicable to do so.

Any deletions (redactions) over the documents have been made in accordance with the exemptions available under the FOI Act.

Documents are available to download in PDF format. If you are unable to access this format, please contact us at FOI@niaa.gov.au and we will try to provide the document in an alternate format (for example, in Microsoft Word). It is free of charge to access information on our disclosure logs.

We do not remove documents from the disclosure logs, unless there are special circumstances. If you would like, you may request we consider removing a published document. Please contact us at FOI@niaa.gov.au.

  • Spreadsheet (pdf format) detailing all funding approvals by the NIAA  – including applicant details, details of their projects they want funding for,  amount of money approved by NIAA and date of approval.  We understand this information is in documents provided to the Federal Government twice a year.  We understand that this document is already created and includes a small summary description of each of the projects by the successful applicants.

Request 2 [Revised 16/4/24]:

#2 In terms of grants approved in the period 01 January 2023 to 01 January 2024 – we would like information on all grant approvals for indigenous youth/adult patrols; mobile hubs; community safety patrols and youth/adult crime prevention programs – as described below.

  • Copies of applications from individuals / organisations, grant agreements and final reports for the decision maker – which detail the name of applicant, information about the project, outline of how much money they asked for, how they planned to spend the money, the timeframes and target outcomes to be met if that grant amount was approved, final reports mentioned which discuss the decision to grant funding against NIAA’s own selection criteria.

Request 3 [Revised 21 May 2024]:

#3 In terms of the following approved grants –

  1. Jane Silverton where NIAA approved a grant of $676,000 on 28/06/2023 for - a mobile beauty service.
  2. Kings Narrative Pty Ltd NIAA approved a grant for $46,000 on 08/06/2023 for - Celebrating our Elders.
  3. Nairm Marr Djambana, NIAA approved a grant of $10,500 on 11/05/2023 for - Honouring our Elders Community Walk.
  4. LARRAKIA NATION ABORIGINAL CORPORATION, NIAA approved a grant of $200,000 on 19/05/2023 for - NAIDOC 2023 for our Elders.
  5. Moorditj Koort Aboriginal Corporation, NIAA approved a grant of $23,526 on 12/05/2023 for - NAIDOC Dinner Celebrating our Elders.

We request the following documents:

  • For Part 3 grant recipients 2-5 - We agreed to amend our request to seek just the following items: Applications for grants, the grant agreements and the acquittal documents.
  • In terms of Part 3 recipient 1 - Once you have located the file - We agreed you would provide Sky News with a detailed description of the documents contained inside the file relating to:
  1. Project milestones that the recipient had committed to in their grant application/agreement; 
  2. NIAA's contact with the recipient about these milestones; and  
  3. Documents relating to the status of those milestones. 

As advised we would only be interested in the names of key senior/ decision makers while accepting the redaction of their contact information.  We do not require the contact details of more junior officers and agree for all of those to be redacted as necessary.”
