The Indigenous Evaluation Committee’s second meeting was held in Canberra on 17 August 2018.
Key discussions
- The Committee discussed and endorsed the 2018-19 Annual Evaluation Work Plan.
- The Policy Analysis and Evaluation Branch presented on the early thinking for the Strengthening the system effectiveness of early childhood investments evaluation.
- The Behavioural Economics Team of the Australian Government (BETA) provided an overview of their work, and presented the findings of Nudge vs Superbugs: A behavioural economics trial to reduce the overprescribing of antibiotics.
- The Community Safety Branch spoke about using Randomised Controlled Trials (RCTs) as an evaluation methodology for testing community safety and justice outcomes.
- The Office of Development Effectiveness (ODE), Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, spoke about the role of their Independent Evaluation Committee and how it has strengthened the evaluation outcomes of ODE.
Other business
- The Committee proposed that at the next Committee meeting updates are provided on the following projects in the 2018-19 Annual Evaluation Work Plan:
- Strengthening the system effectiveness of early childhood investments; and
- Murdi Paaki Lessons Learned.
Next meeting
- The Committee’s next meeting will be held in Canberra in February 2019.
