NIAA has co-designed an approach to evaluating key components of the Central Australia Plan (CAP) with the Central Australia Plan Aboriginal Leadership Group. This evaluation will contribute to: understanding CAP program implementation, including any early outcomes; understanding the process of delivery; and identifying ‘lessons learnt’. Key deliverables include:
- Development of an evaluation plan;
- Undertaking the evaluation, including the collection of quantitative and qualitative data, producing an interim report for discussion with key stakeholders, and development of a final report;
- Close engagement with the governing structure for the evaluation which includes the NIAA and the Aboriginal Leadership Group.
This evaluation provides an opportunity for an independent review of the implementation and process of the CAP. Results will inform forward years of the CAP process, and, more broadly, will help to inform NIAA’s place-based strategies. The CAP process supports government efforts to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including through multiple Closing the Gap Targets (including 3 to 8 and 10 to 17) and by embedding Priority Reforms 1 to 4.
