The Kija Rangers manage Kija Country and are based at the community of Warmun (Turkey Creek) in the east Kimberley. Kija Country includes rocky outcrops, rugged cliffs and the famous Bungle Bungles.

The Kija Rangers work includes:

  • threatened species management of the Gouldian finch and purple-crowned fairy wren
  • an extensive fire management program (aerial and ground burning)
  • control of weeds in the Ord River catchment area.

The group pursues fee-for-service contract opportunities and is increasing the number of repeat clients.

The Kija Rangers work with and learn from their cultural elders. Together, they identify priority conservation and land management targets. Back-to-country trips assist in the transfer of knowledge and strengthen cultural values and connection to country.
