The Gooniyandi Rangers are based near Fitzroy Crossing in the central Kimberley region.  They are working to realise the vision of their senior elders to look after country and culture. The rangers have forged strong partnerships with the pastoral stations on their country. They are now working to jointly manage areas of the Gooniyandi claim area.

The Gooniyandi Rangers undertake important environmental work, including:

  • fire management around communities and across pastoral stations
  • fauna research
  • biodiversity management
  • fee-for-service contracts to control the spread of noxious weeds.

The rangers also play a significant role in educating the next generation in how to look after country. This is done through combining traditional knowledge and contemporary scientific methods.
