Framlingham Forest Indigenous Protected Area (IPA) was dedicated in 2009. It covers 1,130 hectares of native forests in south-west Victoria. It is the largest remnant of stringybark and manna gum savannah that once dominated the landscape around the town Warrnambool.

The Framlingham Forest and Hopkins River continue to provide resources for the Traditional Owners, the Gunditjmara people.

Many activities provide important links to cultural practices and a sense of identity. These include:

  • hunting, fishing and gathering of traditional food and materials
  • ceremonial activities
  • traditional management techniques of the forest and river resources.
