We want a nation where the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the wider Australian community is based on mutual trust and respect.

We fund Reconciliation Australia to help build this relationship.

Reconciliation Australia focuses on influencing organisations, people and policies through the:

  • Reconciliation Action Plan program
  • Narragunnawali: Reconciliation in Education program
  • Indigenous Governance program.

Reconciliation Australia is having great success working with organisations to create Reconciliation Action Plans (RAPs).  RAPs are an opportunity for organisations to demonstrate their level of commitment to:

  • increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff
  • increase cultural awareness
  • help build the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Australians.

RAPs started in 2006 with eight organisations.  At 30 June 2023 - 2,572 organisations had a RAP and 1,006 are registered to develop a new RAP.

  • Reconciliation Week runs from 27 May to 3 June.
