NATSIHP provides holistic and culturally safe advice on health protection matters for First Nations peoples and communities. Focusing on communicable and chronic diseases, environmental health, and disaster management in primary health settings, and health issues related to COVID-19.

Achievements over the last 12 months:
- NATSIHP’s remit has expanded beyond COVID-19, to include all First Nations health protection matters and relevant health outcomes of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap.
- Recognising the valuable contribution of the Advisory Group in providing clinical expertise to advise and inform decisions on COVID-19 related health issues for First Nations peoples and communities, the Group has now been established as a sub-committee of the Australian National Health Protection Principal Committee.
Strong partnership elements that continue to be embedded include:
- 32B(iii) In addition to the current publicly available information (including members and communiques) the Strategic Workplan and Membership guidelines will also be made public once endorsed
Partnership elements strengthened:
- Clause 33 remains unmet in 2023. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members do not receive funding.
- Clause 32C(vi) remains unmet in 2023. The Committee does not advise government on how funding for programs and services can align with community priorities.
