Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partner/s
  • Provides advice, guidance and where appropriate, oversees Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-specific projects on the Commission's work plan or externally funded projects
  • Identifies and facilitates links to key stakeholders, agencies and representatives to support the Commission’s work.
  • Provides advice, guidance and input into Commission program areas and projects that address safety and quality and require input from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective.
  • Provides advice on safety and quality issues for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples that are existing or emerging, and identified by representatives or their organisations.

Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare and representation from all State and Territory Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health departments.

Achievements over the last 12 months

An agreed response was not sought however the Advisory group is being reviewed to ensure it gives effect to the principles that support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination, self-management and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community control.

Partnership elements strengthened

32A(i) meets in 2023 - The Committee invites the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander organisation to nominate representatives and for members for the Committee to identify any gaps in membership.  The Commission does not select members.

The Advisory group will also review elements that do not meet in 2023 including:

  • 32B(iii) - Agreements are being negotiated with First Nations organisations in line with the Commission’s Reconciliation Action Plan for the whole organisation.
  • 32C(vi) and 32C(vi) – as advised above in Achievement
