Badger Island is located to the west of Flinders Island. Its surrounding resources previously supported a community of Tasmanian Aboriginal people but is no longer inhabited. The 1,244-hectare island was dedicated as an Indigenous Protected Area in 2000.
The Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre Rangers manage the island and have successfully controlled boxthorn.
Research is being conducted Badger Island to understand the effects of grazing on the vegetation. Four areas of the island have been fenced off to keep sheep out and trial different regeneration approaches.
