Mardbalk Marine Rangers

Back to

The Mardbalk Marine Rangers are based at Warruwi on Goulburn Island and manage 440,000 hectares of land and sea country.

The rangers monitor and survey areas of cultural significance. They do this with the help of traditional owners and in conjunction with the Aboriginal Area Protection Authority.

They meet barges coming to Goulburn Island and undertake inspections to ensure that no cane toads are introduced to the island. Feral animal culls occur regularly on the mainland at the northern end of Murganella floodplain.

The Mardbalk Marine Rangers also conduct regular sea patrols and surveillance of the surrounding area. Non-compliance offences are reported to the Northern Land Council and other authorities for investigation.
