The Mimal Rangers are based at Weemol, near Bulman. They manage over 600,000 hectares of rugged central Arnhem Land country.
They are one of the five ranger groups that are delivering the West Arnhem Land Fire Abatement project. This project reduces greenhouse gas emissions by implementing a traditional fire management regime.
The rangers have also been protecting springs, billabongs and large areas of native grasses. These areas are critical to the survival of magpie geese from buffalo and pig activity.
The Mimal Rangers are working with the Bulman school to develop a database of local Indigenous language names for plants, animals and cultural sites.
