Queensland Murray-Darling Rangers

Back to

The Queensland Murray-Darling region crosses a wide geographical area and reaches from Goondiwindi to Mitchell and Tara in Queensland. The Queensland Murray-Darling Rangers project showcases reconciliation in action. The Queensland Murray-Darling Catchments Limited works with eight traditional owner groups and around 60 landowners across the region to implement their Caring for Country Plan. The eight traditional owner groups are:

  1. Barunggam
  2. Bidjara
  3. Bigambul
  4. Gunggari
  5. Kambuwal,
  6. Kamilaroi/Goomeroi
  7. Kooma
  8. Mandandanji.

The Queensland Murray-Darling Rangers  work with traditional owner groups to implement a range of environmental projects. These projects are undertaken on a variety of land tenures — some 10 million hectares. They are focusing on projects to:

  • keep country healthy
  • protect heritage
  • conserve, maintain, manage and repair the environment.

This project aims to:

  • contribute to long-term employment
  • build small business opportunities for Aboriginal communities and individuals.
