Fletchers Lake and associated wetlands near Dareton in south-west New South Wales is home to the Barkindji Maraura people. This area is an important part of the Murray-Darling System.

The Barkindji Maraura Rangers carry out ecological assessments and on-ground works at wetland sites in the Fletchers Lake Reserve. To restore and enhance the biodiversity of the wetland they:

  • integrate traditional and contemporary ecological knowledge
  • work in conjunction with elders and partners.

The area is culturally important to the Barkindji Maraura people, and rangers also identify and protect cultural sites.
