The Raukkan Rangers work on a variety of different land tenures across the Coorong Lower Lakes Region and the mouth of the Murray River. The Murray River is the nation’s most iconic river. It supports estuarine, floodplain and wetland environments of national and international significance.
The traditional owners, the Ngarrindjeri People have occupied the area for tens of thousands of years.Today they work with the broader community to protect the environment. They manage their cultural heritage according to their laws and obligations to Yarluwar-Ruwe, Sea Country.
The Raukkan Rangers operate and manage a native plant nursery, producing around 50,000 plants each year. These plants are used for rehabilitation of wetlands and habitats around the lakes. The rangers are also monitoring and providing protection of threatened plant and animal species across the region.
