World Radio Day: celebrating our Indigenous broadcasters

World Radio Day (13 February) is an opportunity to celebrate the impact of radio, and in particular, Indigenous Broadcast Services (IBS), on remote Indigenous communities throughout Australia.

Before the launch of Australia’s first domestic satellite, AUSSAT in 1985, many remote communities had little or no access radio broadcasts. Now there are over 120 IBSs around Australia reaching approximately 100,000 people.
