Keeping remote communities safe from Coronavirus (COVID-19)

As Coronavirus (COVID-19) spreads, Australian governments have decided to restrict the movement of people into remote communities. The restrictions will commence shorty and community members are encouraged to stay in their own community, as it is the safest place to be.

Community members who are away from their community are encouraged to return home. Once restrictions are in place people will be required to self-isolate outside of the community for 14 days before they can return.

The decision to restrict access to remote communities follows advice from Indigenous leaders, decisions by a number of Indigenous communities and the Western Australian and Northern Territory Governments to implement similar measures.

This decision has been made to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health of people in remote areas.

Travelling in and out of remote areas for emergencies and essential services will still be possible to ensure services and supplies continue.
