The Work Exposure in Government (WEX) program provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students with hands-on experience and knowledge about career pathways in the Australian Government.

WEX Canberra 2024 will be held from Sunday 6 October 2024 to Friday 11 October 2024.

All accommodation, transportation and meals are provided at no cost and students are accompanied by teachers and mentors who provide cultural mentoring and leadership guidance.

Activities and experiences may include:

  • Meeting First Nations leaders including senior government Ministers and parliamentarians.
  • Visits to different Australian Government agencies, including the Australian Defence Force Academy, Australian Federal Police, and the National Indigenous Australians Agency.
  • Obtaining advice on career planning.
  • Working alongside Indigenous mentors who will help guide your personal leadership journey.
  • Meeting other Indigenous students and future leaders.
  • One-on-one and small group workshops on leadership, mentoring and how to make the most of your school learning experience. 
  • Cultural activities.
  • A Careers Expo, where students can talk to representatives from a range of government agencies.
