ABA grant applications are now managed by the Northern Territory Aboriginal Investment Corporation (NTAIC).
The ABA was set up under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976. It receives funds equivalent to the royalties from mines located on Aboriginal land in the Northern Territory (NT). These funds are used to benefit Aboriginal people living in the NT, including through ABA grants.
The National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) no longer manages the ABA grants process.
ABA grants are now managed by the Northern Territory Aboriginal Investment Corporation (NTAIC). The NTAIC is an Aboriginal-led Commonwealth entity that began in November 2022. For further information on the NTAIC and the ABA grant process, please visit NT Aboriginal Investment Corporation.
The NIAA will continue to manage:
- ABA grants approved before 2023
- the ABA Homelands Project.
Please contact the NIAA ABA team on 1800 354 612 or aba@official.niaa.gov.au for queries related to this funding.
